Adam H. Edelen, Director of the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security

On December 13, 2007 Governor Beshear appointed Adam H. Edelen as Executive Director for the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security. In this leadership role, Edelen is charged with ensuring that the commonwealth’s families, first responders and communities have the resources they need to be ready and prepared.

From having served as an aide to a Kentucky Governor to his work as a senior executive with both Thomas & King, Inc and Commerce Lexington, Edelen brings a diverse background of management and administrative experience to the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security. He has significant experience in strategic planning and an extensive background in coordinating with federal, state and local officials.

In 2003, he was the recipient of the Ace Magazine-Lexington Young Professionals’ Association “Rising Star Award.” In 2007 Edelen was named a Young Leader by the American Swiss Foundation.

Edelen has a demonstrated record of community leadership, having served as Chairman of the Board of Kentucky Educational Television (KET) as well as Chairman of the 2006 United Way of the Bluegrass Annual Campaign. Currently, he is Vice-Chairman of the Urban League of Lexington and a member of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence.

From 2000-2002, Adam led New Century Lexington’s Report on Community Livability effort, resulting in a nationally recognized tool for measuring the community’s quality of life.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Adam and his wife Catherine make their home in Lexington. They are the proud parents of twin boys.
